Meet Dr. Hope Hampton

Dr. Hope Hampton (she/her/hers) is a Portland-based physical therapist specializing in orthopedics with special interest in rehabilitation of the injured musician. Hope is a lifelong musician. She has a music degree with emphasis in classical violin, but also independently studies piano, guitar, and voice.

Hope received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Idaho State University and started her physical therapy career in Portland, Oregon. She has completed Therapeutic Associates’ orthopedic residency program, advanced manual therapy certification through the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT), and she is an ABPTS certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS). More recently, she has become a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT) with the Norton School of Lymphatic Therapy.

Hope’s path toward a career in physical therapy is unique. Hope pursued a music business degree at Boise State University in 2009, studying violin as her primary instrument. After many years as a violinist playing in string quartets and community orchestras, Hope recognized that musicians are often overlooked and misunderstood within healthcare. She is dedicated to the development of rehabilitation programs designed for musicians by a musician. In addition to playing violin, Hope also studies piano, guitar, and voice recreationally. She enjoys working with musicians across all ages, abilities, instruments, and genres.

In addition, Hope enjoys working with people experiencing orthopedic injuries, people with cancer or survivors of cancer, including those with lymphedema. She takes a holistic approach to rehabilitation working to address all aspects of a person that may be contributing to the experience of pain, both acute and chronic, utilizing techniques such as manual therapy, pain neuroscience education, stress management practices, therapeutic exercise, body mechanics education, and many others.

Hope founded Hampton Physiotherapy in 2022 as the sole owner and operator in order to provide her patients with the compassionate, holistic, one-on-one care she believes all people deserve.

Outside of work, Hope enjoys trail running, hiking, biking, rock climbing, fitness, playing honky tonk and blues violin, watching live music, and enjoying Portland’s many incredible restaurants.
